Exhibit A: Design Group establishes the brand position for a real estate developer to best communicate its legacy for social good.
MCC Legacy Trust, a real estate development and property management organization with a unique philanthropic purpose, has unveiled its complete rebrand as HyLand™ Properties.
The extensive rebrand marks a strategic repositioning that better communicates the organization’s distinct mission: operating as a for-profit real estate company whose sole purpose is generating sustainable income for the charitable work of its shareholder, the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).
As part of this transformation, Hyland Properties is also introducing a new tagline: ‘Local Properties – Global Impact.’ This tagline reflects the organization’s dual commitment to local real estate development and its broader global mission of supporting MCC’s relief, development, and peace programs.
“HyLand combines the expertise of a top-tier real estate development company with a character shaped by MCC values,” explains Peter Helm, President of HyLand Properties.
“Our new name, identity, and tagline help position us to fulfill our mandate of building a stable portfolio of income-producing assets while communicating our unique purpose in the marketplace. The rebrand clarifies our role as both a commercial entity and an extension of MCC’s global mission.”
The strategic rebrand process, led by Exhibit A: Design Group, included extensive research, stakeholder interviews with management and advisory board members, brand strategy development, creative direction, naming, and a comprehensive brand guide with extensive applications.
The name “HyLand” reflects the organization’s purpose of real estate with a higher meaning, while the expressive brand mark incorporates linear elements created by overlaying it with the MCC Global logo, visually representing the connection between the commercial entity and the global nonprofit organization.
Founded 12 years ago through what is noted as the second-largest donation in Canadian history, Hyland Properties’ journey began when Henry and Mary Rempel donated their extensive real estate portfolio to MCC with the intention of operating it as an endowment—preserving capital while directing profits to support those most in need across the developing world.
“HyLand provides real value and impact to the world through the full spectrum of MCC’s local and global relief, development and peace programs,” explains Cory Ripley, Principal and Creative Director at Exhibit A: Design Group.
“The client realized that the organization would benefit from a strategic brand platform, name and identity to better relay its importance, strengthen its empathetic presence, and differentiate itself in the real estate management and development market.”
With this rebrand, Hyland Properties is positioned to achieve its strategic goal of contributing $20,000,000 to MCC over the next five years, with aspirations for exponential growth in the years to come. The organization continues to operate as a group of for-profit companies, managing a wide range of real estate activities, including land development, new construction, and property management.
The rebrand has been implemented across all touchpoints, from corporate communications and marketing materials to property signage and digital presence, creating a cohesive and distinctive identity that stands out in the competitive real estate landscape.
