Creative Director Cory Ripley, founding Principal of Exhibit A: Design Group, returns for the fifth consecutive year to instruct the popular “Retail Packaging” workshop course to third-year Bachelor of Design students.

Capilano University’s IDEA School of Design workshops are an ongoing initiative that are designed to complement current curriculum instruction and give students access to select specialized expertise of industry practitioners.

The Retail Packaging workshop is an intensive workshop that combines research, strategy, marketing, aesthetics and three dimensional production.

Students learn to conduct market research, write a strategic brief, and create thoughtful packaging that attracts attention visually and appeals to consumers on an emotional level. Through the workshop, students are guided through the complete packaging redesign process.

Ripley graduated from Capilano College’s Graphic Design and Illustration program in 1998.

“This is truly a great honour for me”, exclaims Exhibit A: Design Group Creative Director Cory Ripley.

“Although I have instructed courses at various design colleges and universities throughout my professional career, it is a thrill for me to come full circle, and share my knowledge and passion where I attained my own formal design education.”

The Graphic Design and Illustration diploma program was replaced with a degree and renamed the IDEA School of Design in 2008, the same year the college was granted university status. The degree replaces, and builds upon, the successful IDEA (design and illustration) diploma program, which has gained a reputation throughout Canada for effective, industry-ready graduates.

“Thinking back to my time at design school, I can distinctly remember the varied industry professionals that served as sessional instructors – influenced me – and whose teachings and mentorship continue to inspire me to this day”, says Ripley.

“It was valuable to receive insight to real world scenarios and career expectations. I hope to also inspire the next generation of talented designers.”

Upon graduation, Ripley went on to become Senior Designer and Art Director at a leading graphic design firm. In 2002, he established Exhibit A: Design Group.

Today, Exhibit A: Design Group is a well respected full-service creative consultancy that specializes in brand strategy and integrated brand development, including branding and packaging design. The studio’s strategic approach and experience in branding and packaging design has contributed to the success of all types of  businesses from a wide variety of markets.
